TRANSFORMATION OF FUNCTIONS FROM DISTRICTS TO REGIONAL COUNCIL

Last updated: 28 November 2023

The aim of the pilot is to build rotary for the future in our zone. Part of the process means that many functions currently undertaken by Districts will move to be the responsibility of the Regional Council.

This transformation will occur in several tranches commencing June 2024 and proceed through the 2024-25 Rotary year. The order of functions to move to the Regional Council has been determined through consultation with the District Governor train and considers the both the potential positive impact from the new governance structure and the complexity of the change.

The first tranche will be transferred in June 2024 and will include Membership – New Club development and existing club support; Zone Public Image; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Interact. Prior to the transfer occurring, a readiness review will be conducted to ensure that the Regional Council is ready to take responsibility for the function.

District Governors and Districts will remain throughout the pilot, although the role of the District Governor and what is done by the Districts will change. The District and the Regional Council will work collaboratively to maximise the impact of the new model and minimise disruption during the transition period.

There will be ongoing communication about what functions will be included in each of the tranches so that it is clear who is responsible for everything at all times.

The Rotary Foundation will remain the responsibility of the Districts throughout the pilot.
