DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI)

Last updated: 28 November 2023

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realising our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change. We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, colour, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognising that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong. In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Regionalisation Establishment Team is responsible for exploring how the diverse needs of Rotary members throughout Zone 8 can be met through regionalisation. The team is led by Steve Chaney (NZ) and includes representatives from the French-speaking community, regional Australia, the LGBTIQA+ community and countries in the Pacific Islands.

We believe that diversity, equity and inclusion should be a part of everything that Rotary does and the Regionalisation Establishment teams are committed to ensuring this happens.

This dedicated Regionalisation Establishment Team liaise with all RET teams to ensure that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is embraced in their planning. Representation from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands is sought in all working groups, the Steering Group and the Monitoring and Evaluation team.

All member communications are translated into French for those who have indication on My Rotary that French is their preferred language.

We have multiple ways of communicating including Zoom, email and social media.

We are always looking for more ways to incorporate DEI. So, if you have comments, suggestions or questions, please contact us via our email.
