On arriving at the 2024 International Assembly in Orlando, I immediately felt the excitement and energy, as well as a slight nervous buzz in me. It felt surreal as I made my way to the main plenary room and peered around the door. WOW! This is for real! To see the massive screens all displaying the graphics of the “People of Action” campaign. Not just in English, but other languages too.

I soon appreciated how vast and global Rotary International really is. From that moment on my Rotary world expanded hugely and the magic truly began.

One of the key takeaways for me was that we have the magic in ourselves to create the change we desire within our Zone. Our clubs and districts are built on amazing connections! We have so many opportunities to use our knowledge and passion to expand our reach.

Our clubs are vital. They are the core environment where members participate in this amazing organisation and learn from each other. We must enhance the club experience quickly by really understanding and looking after our members’ needs.

We must not be afraid to embrace and try new ideas, ensuring both existing and new clubs are more aligned to our changing communities. The potential benefits are massive: fresh ideas, innovative thinking and the opportunity to become even more inclusive.

A common theme at International Assembly was our Rotary Action Plan. The priorities it outlines are a fantastic road map for us here in Zone 8: increasing our impact, expanding our reach, enhancing participant engagement, and improving our ability to adapt. But it is truly up to us to embrace this Plan.

Beyond the formalities, the Assembly provided an invaluable platform for forging connections, engaging in meaningful conversations, and expanding my friendships and networks. I was humbled by the realisation that so many Rotarians from diverse backgrounds, united by a common passion, are dedicated to effecting positive change on a global scale.

As we embark on the Regionalisation Pilot, supported by the well-wishes of District Governors from around the world, let’s work together to champion in a new era of collaboration and innovation.

May the magic of Rotary propel us towards a future in which our collective efforts make an even bigger difference in the world!
